Injury Prevention
Minnesota has partnered with the Minnesota Toward Zero Death Group (TZD) to focus on zero deaths on our highways. Each year, TZD hosts a conference related to highway safety, organized by the 4 E’s (Enforcement, Engineering, EMS, and Education). ED Nurses are a critical link in decreasing motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian deaths. See the links to TZD and the information they share.
Minnesota ENA has also partnered with the Minnesota Department of Health to develop, promote, and assist in disseminating education related to stroke care.
ENA recognizes violence is a significant risk in our work and lives. A toolkit on Workplace Violence is found on the ENA’s website.
Toward Zero Deaths Regional Workshops
The Toward Zero Death Workshops include education on injury prevention and patient care. The 4 “E’s” (Enforcement, EMS, Engineering, and Education) are for everyone to attend and learn how to reduce traffic-related deaths in Minnesota to zero. Emergency Nurses and ED staff are considered part of the EMS arm of TZD and frequently present on car seats, in case studies, and in assessments and the care of motor vehicle crash victims. The cost is minimal, and there are numerous opportunities to network with those who share the same objectives as emergency nurses- to provide safe patients and safe care.

Regional Workshops
The Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths Regional Workshops, held annually in Minnesota TZD regions across the state, help facilitate a collaborative, comprehensive, and regional approach to reducing traffic deaths and severe injuries.
Workshop goals include prioritizing traffic safety for policymakers, providing a method to bring traffic safety programs to local communities, and offering a networking opportunity for traffic safety advocates.
